2011 Handicap Series ------------------------------------ Hi All Finally found some time to get this out. Thanks to the 14 hardy souls who made it down to the final handicap race of the 2011 series. Disappointingly, despite the lure of free beer and hot dogs this was the lowest turnout of the season but that just meant all the more for those who were there. Everyone seemed to enjoy it which was the main thing. Thanks also to those who came down to help or indeed just support. Special thanks to Pete for doing such a good job of cooking the sausages. Now, an apology as I managed to get the final result wrong on the night – don’t worry Wes, your first place is secure. No, what I had missed was Debbie sneaking quietly up on the inside to actually take overall 2nd place – so sorry about that Debbie. Apologies to Caroline also as that means she drops down to 4th, with Alistair in 3rd. So, congratulations to Wes for his overall victory. Despite his claims that his big improvements were all down to hard work I’m thinking a not so random blood test might be in order J Thanks again to everyone who supported the series, either by running or helping out. Cheers Roy ------------------------------------ Hi All Another interesting race tonight. I think Wes has been getting in some sneaky training, as he knocked a massive 3 mins off last month’s time to finish comfortably in front. Simon Waters followed home with a cracking time under 29 mins. A little further down the field, James and Adrian had a barnstorming sprint finish with James just edging it. Well done to all who took part and many thanks to my 2 glamorous helpers – Caroline and Fiona. I’ve not included the leader board this month just to keep a bit of mystique over likely winners, as with one race remaining there are still a few people who could take the title. Cheers Roy ------------------------------------ A good turnout tonight, with 20 runners. Wes, with his slow running half marathon practice out of the way stormed to victory, chased hard by James in a time of 29:17. Roy ------------------------------------ Hi All Thanks to those who turned up for tonight’s race and particularly Dan and Pete for helping out. Well done to Alistair for leading the way home (he wont have such a generous handicap next time though!!). It will be interesting to know if people found the opposite direction harder than normal – I heard a couple of comments to that affect. Cheers Roy ------------------------------------ Thanks to the 15 runners who came along for race 1 of the 2011 Handicap Series. After a minor glitch at the start the race got off almost on time (thanks Dan). Congratulations to Caroline for taking first place, just holding off the fast catching Dan who was just 1 second behind. Next up, Alistair, Stuart and Rachel were separated by just 10 seconds, with the whole field separated by just over 3 minutes. For those lower down the field, don’t despair as handicap times will be adjusted for the next race, which will be on 11th May. Many thanks to Elly, Mike and Pete for helping run the race and again to Elly for supplying a tray of biscuits, which I’m sure were most welcome after the race. Good luck to those running the London Marathon (and any other races) this weekend. Cheers Roy ------------------------------------ The Handicap is a 5 race series, run over a 5 mile course, open to all Tewkesbury AC Club Members, with your best 3 results to count. The series will be held on the second Wednesday of the month, April through August, as these dates tend to fit around the numerous races planned by the other local running clubs. The dates for 2011 are: 13th April Start time: First runner away at 7pm sharp. Location: Walton Cardiff Lane. Please park at Morrisons and not the local area. Format: Each race is a 5 mile handicap, run over the same course (TAC 5 Mile). The handicap is that the faster you can run, the less time you will be given to complete the race. The runner requiring the longest time to complete the 5 mile circuit will set off at 7pm, with each subsequent runner effectively being given less and less time to complete the course. Hopefully, the start times will have been calculated so precisely that there will be a blanket finish. We got close a couple of times in 2010, so room from improvement in 2011! Points will be awarded for each race depending on the finishing order. The handicaps will be reviewed after each race so will improve our chances of getting a blanket finish later in the series. At the end of the series, the runner with the highest point’s total (base on their best 3 results from the series) will be crowned Champion. The points will be rewarded as follows. First across the line will receive 30 points, 2nd 29 points 3rd 28 points etc. 2010 Handicap Series Final Results
