2009 Final Standings for the King / Queen of the Road and the Good For Age. 2010 Club Championship - AKA - King / Queen of the Road Current Tables for the 2010 Championship
In my role Road Running Secretary, I thought I would let you all know about the 2010 Club Championship. For the relative newcomers or unintiated, the Club Championship consists of 19 local races ranging from 5 Km up to Half Marathon distance + a Marathon of your choice. Before you all start panicking, this doesn't mean you have to run all 20 races, or even the Marathon or Half Marathon. Each year the committee vote for a collection of races during the year. The selected events are chosen for their varied locations, distances, dates, and terrain. Some of the races may be included in the Gloucestershire road race series, but typically an event like the Mallards Pike 5m held in the Forest of Dean offers not only, a well staged race, but more importantly, a fabulous atmosphere. The full line up for 2010 has now been agreed, and the list of races so far can be found via the link above or on the calendar page. The trophies up for grabs are the 'King of the Road', the 'Queen of the Road', and the 'Veterans Shield' (also known as 'Good for Age'). The scoring works like this - if you finish a race, you will be awarded a minimum of 3 points with an extra point for every Tewkesbury AC runner you finish ahead of. So for the first race of last Year's event - the 4 Mile at the Pilot Inn in Hardwicke - the scoring was as follows:
The times from each race will be put into a age/sex calculator which has been developed by the World Masters Association - this will give a 'Good for Age' time, this time will be put into a separate table for the 'Veterans Shield'. Based on the results above the age/sex calculator would give the following results.
As you can see, not a lot of difference on this table with these guys, but it does show that Mungo is a better runner for his age than Jon is for his age, but we didn't need a calculator for that !!!!! In all three trophies up for grabs, it is only your 10 highest scoring runs that count towards the total, plus an extra 2 points for every run you finish that are not in your top 10, i.e. if you run in 16 of the 20 races, 10 races will score and the remaining six you will get 2 points per race (12 points) To make it clear you don't have to run all the events. However, if you do race (and finish) in any of the selected ones then you'll collect points towards your yearly total. All the times, points, places etc will be sorted out so all you need to do is turn up and run. Tip: it is not always the best runners who finish near the top of the table, but the ones who are the best at getting the forms filled in and sent off !!!!! If you need clarification on any of the items above, give me a call or drop me an e-mail. See you there Dan |
